Last night while Rob and I were shooting downtown we walked down to Waterplace Park and had the place to ourselves.. this was just after 8:00 - not late night. This is really bice in the summer during Waterfire. Providence is really a pretty town. I shot this two ways as a conventional exposure panorama and as an HDR (High Dynamic Range) image. Check them both out.

Providence Statehouse

My friend Rob and I took a short photographic journey to downtown Providence this evening and I got this shot of the statehouse while Rob was shooting time lapse of the traffic in front of the mall on Francis Street. The sky was fantastic with low fast moving clouds that were illuminated by the city lights. I shot this HDR image using my Nikon D300s with a Nikon 10.5mm lens on a 360Precision Absolute tripod head. This image is composed of 63 exposures.

I carved this sign for my friend Josh.  He had found the piece of driftwood shaped like an 'S' on his honeymoon in the Pacific Northwest so I got a piece of cedar and chopped this out for him. It is going to be a present for his family.

Occupy Providence

Well I had to go down myself to see what the fuss was all about.  Every radio show and television show I tells me something different about these protests, so I decided to go find out for myself. As it turn out the park is more full of trash and tents than people.  The folks I encountered were quite pleasant and seemed to be into the theme of things but I couldn't get a real solid answer as to what the protest was actually about.  The best answer I got was that they are protesting all the corporate greed that has developed since World War II in the post war industrial complex and that all the greed is on Wall Street. Like I said I didn't get a real clear answer. I met a man named Robert - the one with the drum in pano 3 - he said he has set up camp here and comes down when he is not working on a project. He is a film maker and documentary maker from Charleston.  Most of the tents were empty and there were only twenty or so people in the park. Poor old Ambrose Burnside had all sorts of things taped to him and his horse.. I wonder if anyone there even knows who he was.

And here is one just for fun... as I was walking back to my car I did some shooting and shot this HDR shot (way too overdone) on Orange Street and to my surprise it came out mostly orange!!

Dee's Place, East Providence

Another dawn shot. This is Dee's Place in East Providence, a great place for breakfast. My good friend Christopher and I have been meeting here at 6:00 am once a week for the past 15 years or more.  I highly recommend this place for breakfast, right at the base of the Washington Bridge on Warren Avenue.

Early Morning McAllister Tugs in Providence

I was out early this morning before work shooting the McAllister Tugs in Providence.  As I reached the Tug terminal in Providence these two, the McAllister Sisters and the Nancy McAllister, were underway. One tug was towing the other. It was a bit too dark to shoot them as I was getting a lot of motion blur, so I decided to go down to the Providence Piers and lo and behold the same two tugs were arriving at Promet Marine. I would guess that one needed repairs. I got this shot as they were entering the slip.  I shot this several ways including an HDR shot, but this single, non-HDR was my favorite.  I love shooting tugboat art. . . .  ISO 250, f4.5, .5 second exposure, 95mm - on tripod
